Bharat NCAP 2.0 To Bring Full Front & Rear Impact Crash Tests, BNCAP 2.0 To Launch In 2027
Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) 2.0 is expected to launch in 2027 with major safety enhancements. New crash tests, advanced dummies, and evaluations of driver-assist technology will feature in the upgraded version. Since October 2023, the current voluntary protocol has tested 24 cars so far.
Current Capabilities
Currently, BNCAP conducts a Frontal (partial) impact test that strikes 40% of the vehicle’s front from the driver’s side. Side impact and Side pole tests assess lateral and narrow-object collision safety. The system evaluates child restraint systems and various safety-assist technologies in further detail.
New Capabilities
Under the program, vehicles receive up to five stars for adult and child occupant protection. Bharat NCAP 2.0 will add Full-frontal crash tests replicating head-on collisions across the entire width. Rear impact tests assessing whiplash protection, rear occupant safety, and fuel system integrity will also be a notable addition.
Advanced crash-test dummies capable of generating more detailed injury and force data will be used in the new version. The dummies will enhance the accuracy of side pole and frontal impact analyses. Reports suggest that the improvements will help automakers develop safer structures, airbags, and restraint systems for consumers.
