2026 Hyundai i20 Spotted Testing, Features Camouflaged Exterior With Revised Styling

Hyundai is preparing to update its premium hatchback, the i20, to boost its appeal. A new generation i20 could launch in 2026, three years after the current version. Test mules of the 2026 Hyundai i20 have been spotted in India.

Automotive enthusiast Praveen captured the spy shots in Gurugram, Haryana. The test car carries a camouflaged exterior and temporary red registration plates. Hyundai commonly uses these on its development vehicles undergoing public road testing.

Design Changes

From the rear, the prototype shows a tapering profile, a rounded design, and a broad mid-section without roof rails. These proportions confirm it as a hatchback, not an SUV.

The update will enable the i20 to compete against rivals like the facelifted Tata Altroz launched earlier this year. Hatchbacks still hold unique appeal despite India’s growing SUV preference. Hyundai intends to keep its premium hatch fresh and competitive.

Expected Changes

Expected updates will include a new fascia, revised rear, and modern alloy wheel design. Inside, dual 10.2-inch displays shall be available with better graphics. Additional features may include ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and a Level-1 ADAS suite.

Engine & Transmission Combinations

We expect the engines to remain unchanged from the current lineup. The 1.2L NA petrol engine shall continue with 5-speed manual transmission or CVT options. The N Line retains its 1.0-litre turbo petrol with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and sporty enhancements.
