
JSW Motors To Collaborate With BYD For Access TO EV Platforms & Components
JSW Motors, which partially owns MG Motor India, is under negotiations with BYD for access to electric vehicle platforms and components. The company is also in discussions with other Chinese automakers like Geely, Chery, Xiaomi, Nio Auto, and Li Auto. These partnerships aim to support JSW Motors as it enters the competitive passenger vehicle segment.
Future Plans
JSW Motors has committed nearly Rs 26,000 crore over the next five years to establish itself as a strong player in the automotive industry. JSW Motors expects to launch its first car before June next year from a new factory in Maharashtra. The company targets 25 new model launches by 2030.
JSW Motors initiated talks with BYD, a company that currently imports vehicles into India while paying steep customs duties, some time ago and continues them. CEO Ranjan Nayak confirmed JSW Motors’ willingness to even manufacture cars for BYD at the upcoming Maharashtra facility. This plant will have an annual production capacity of 5 lakh units.
Alliances With VW & Renault
JSW Motors is also exploring alliances with European firms such as Volkswagen and Renault to access platforms and components. Nayak emphasised JSW Motors’ flexible approach in building global collaborations to speed up the company’s entry into the EV market. These talks underline JSW’s strategy to become a competitive force in India’s fast-evolving automobile sector.
Outlook
He highlighted that JSW Motors could leverage India’s ecosystem in line with changing geopolitical dynamics. He also stated that India has the potential to emerge as an export hub for global EV markets.
