At Hyundai’s Investor Day 2025, the Korean company confirmed that a new compact EV will go on sale in India in 2027. Likely to be based on the Hyundai Inster, the all-electric compact SUV will be “designed, engineered, and built in India for Indian customers”, confirmed José Muñoz, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor Company.

As we had reported earlier, Hyundai India had been given the go-ahead to by its Korean parent to challenge the Tata Punch EV earlier this year. Codenamed HE1i, this new sub-4-metre electric SUV will be underpinned by the company’s global and affordable E-GMP (K) platform, which is also used by the Hyundai Inster on sale abroad. The new electric SUV will be produced at the Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur factory with localised batteries from Exide.
Will come with two battery pack options – Standard Range and Long Range

Hyundai India has also confirmed that the new EV will be available with two battery options – Standard Range and Long Range; the Euro-spec Inster is available in those markets with 42kWh (Standard Range) and 49kWh (Long Range) options, which have WLTP ranges of 300km and 355km, respectively. The Inster Standard range has a 97hp, 147Nm motor, while the Long Range is equipped with a 115hp, 147Nm motor.
Level 2 ADAS suite confirmed

Other details of the new Hyundai compact EV that have been confirmed include a Level 2 ADAS suite and an infotainment system that is capable of OTA (over-the-air) updates. In-car connectivity tech and other creature comforts typical of well-specced Hyundai cars are also expected. For reference, the Hyundai Inster is equipped with dual 10.25-inch displays for the instrument panel and touchscreen infotainment, an ADAS suite, auto climate control and a 360-deg camera with blind spot monitoring.
