At its Investors Day presentation, Hyundai India has revealed an aggressive new product plan that includes 26 new launches by 2030. This includes both all-new nameplates as well as updates to existing models. Hyundai also revealed plans to introduce 3 new CNG-powered cars.
- Hyundai plans to add 3 new CNG models by 2030.
- Currently, Grand i10, Aura, and Exter get CNG options.
Hyundai CNG plans till 2030
Hyundai is planning to launch 3 new CNG models in India by 2030, which will double the CNG models in its lineup to 6 cars. With such a portfolio, the carmaker is aiming to achieve 20 percent of its sales to come from CNG models by FY30, which currently stands at 13 percent in FY25.
While it is still too early to speculate which models will get a CNG powertrain, the Hyundai i20 could be one of them. We say this because all its competitors like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz get a CNG powertrain option.
The Venue could also be amongst the new cars that get a CNG setup, as its prime rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor are equipped with the greener fuel option.
The third model could be the Bayon-based Fronx rival that is expected to debut in India by 2026. It will be sharing its underpinnings with the i20, but will have a more crossover-ish body style and will also come with an all-new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Being in the compact segment, this is yet another logical candidate that could be equipped with a CNG powertrain.
However, all of this is still speculative, and we expect Hyundai to offer more information regarding this in the coming times.
CNG cars in Hyundai’s lineup currently
As mentioned earlier, it is only the Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter that currently get a CNG powertrain option in the Hyundai lineup. All three cars get a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine that puts out 69hp and 95Nm in CNG-spec, and come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
