Toyota Hilux Next-Gen Spotted Testing In Guatemala, Reveals Key Design Highlights For The Pickup Truck As Well As The Fortuner
Toyota is preparing the next-generation Hilux, expected to make its global debut in November 2025. Recently, test mules have appeared multiple times. Spy photographers from Guatemala capture the pickup at a local fuel station in the latest shots.
Design Changes
Most exterior changes are concentrated around the front fascia. The pickup receives a new mesh-type grille with horizontal and vertical slats. A large bumper is visible, though no faux skid plate can be seen.
Instead, the underside features a metal bash plate for protection. The headlights sharpen but retain their boomerang shape. Enhancing its road presence, the front fascia looks flatter and more upright.
Aside from new alloy wheels, the side profile remains largely familiar. It continues with squared wheel arches and body cladding. Running boards, traditional door handles, and trapezoidal ORVMs with indicators are also present.
At the rear, tail lamps seem like inverted versions of existing units. The bumper design looks mostly unchanged with slight tweaks possible. A new tailgate handle appears more practical and ergonomically improved.
We expect that the Toyota Fortuner will share similar styling tweaks to the front fascia as the Hilux. This is due to the similarities in the proportions and dimensions between the two vehicles.
Interior
The interiors haven’t been revealed in these spy shots. However, earlier patent leaks showed significant cabin updates. The 2026 Hilux will feature a redesigned dashboard and a new centre console.
Expected Features
A large 12-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment unit will take centre stage. The pickup will also feature a fully digital TFT instrument cluster. A head-up display and an electronic parking brake are expected.
Comfort upgrades may include powered and ventilated seats. Toyota may also offer electrically operated rear windows and a powered tailgate. A redesigned steering wheel will align with Toyota’s new interior theme.
Engine Options
Powertrain options are expected to remain unchanged from the current model. The 2.8-litre diesel engine produces 204 hp and up to 500 Nm of torque. It offers 4WD with active traction control and downhill assist control.
The next-gen Toyota Hilux is likely to debut at the Thailand Motor Expo. We expect global sales to begin in early 2026. An India launch could rival the Isuzu V-Cross and Mahindra Scorpio N pickup in 2027.
