Given the unpredictable nature of Indian roads and motorists, safety has ballooned in importance to the average car buyer in recent years. Initiatives like Bharat NCAP allow for standardised crash testing and certification, and features like Level 2 ADAS act as an additional safety net while driving.
The number of airbags in many cars has also increased to six (two for the driver and co-driver, two curtain, and two side airbags), that too from the base variant itself. However, while even cars like the humble Maruti Suzuki Eeco and Alto K10 now get six airbags as standard, a lot of them still make do with two airbags in their entry-level variants. Listed below is every car currently on sale in India that doesn’t offer six airbags as standard, ranked in ascending order of price.
1. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
Price: Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 5.25 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only
The GST reform has made the S-Presso the cheapest car currently on sale in India, but it remains one of the few Maruti Suzuki models to not be updated with six airbags as standard. Across its entire range, the S-Presso comes equipped with two airbags only.
2. Renault Kwid
Price: Rs 4.30 lakh to Rs 5.99 lakh
Six airbags in top-spec trim only
Renault updated the Kiger and Triber with six airbags as standard this year, but the French carmaker's entry-level model, the Kwid, gets only two airbags as standard across the majority of its variant line-up. However, the range-topping Kwid Climber trim level – starting at Rs 5.47 lakh – does offer six airbags.
3. Tata Tiago
Price: Rs 4.57 lakh to Rs 8.10 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

Though most Tata cars get six airbags as standard, the Tiago hatchback comes with two airbags only. Higher variants don't increase the number of airbags either, but it's worth noting that the Tiago was rated 4 stars by Global NCAP in 2020, so it does have some safety credentials to boot.
4. Citroen C3
Price: Rs 4.80 lakh to Rs 9.05 lakh
Six airbags in higher trims
The C3 range received a substantial ‘X’ update in August 2025, but its entry-level Live and Feel trim levels still offer just two airbags. Citroen equips the C3 with six airbags from the Feel(O) trim onwards, which starts at Rs 6.65 lakh.
5. Maruti Suzuki Ignis
Price: Rs 5.35 lakh to Rs 7.55 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

The only other Maruti model to not have received the six airbags update is the Ignis hatchback. Throughout its variant line-up, the Ignis is equipped with just two airbags, and the count doesn't increase in higher trims either.
6. Tata Tigor
Price: Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 8.74 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

Much like its hatchback sibling, the Tigor compact sedan is fitted with two airbags across all variants. However, the Tigor also holds a 4-star Global NCAP rating (prior protocol), which inspires some confidence.
7. Tata Punch
Price: Rs 5.50 lakh to Rs 9.30 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only
Tata’s most affordable SUV, the Punch, does not get six airbags as standard, and the feature isn’t available in higher trim levels either. Like the Tiago and Tigor, though, Tata does claw back some points courtesy of the Punch’s impressive 5-star Global NCAP rating.
8. MG Comet EV
Price: Rs 7.50 lakh to Rs 10 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

The Comet is the cheapest EV you can currently buy in India, and it’s available with two airbags across all variants. Contrary to most other cars on this list, the Comet EV is very compact and doesn't have rear doors, which somewhat limits the case for six airbags. However, four airbags could still have been offered in the Comet EV.
9. Mahindra Bolero
Price: Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 9.69 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

Despite being updated for 2025 recently, the Bolero still doesn't get six airbags as standard, offering just two airbags irrespective of the variant. This is likely a result of the ladder-frame-based Bolero being rather long in the tooth, with the current-gen model having launched over a decade ago.
10. Tata Tiago EV
Price: Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 11.14 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only
The Tiago’s all-electric derivative, the Tiago EV, is much the same in offering just two airbags throughout its variant line-up. Expectedly, the Tiago EV also has a 4-star Global NCAP score.
11. Mahindra Bolero Neo / Neo Plus
Price: Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 11.80 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

Updated alongside the Bolero, the Bolero Neo still comes equipped with only two airbags throughout the range, even though the ladder-frame-based compact SUV is a newer model. The same holds true for its 9-seater derivative, the Bolero Neo+.
12. MG Astor
Price: Rs 9.65 lakh to Rs 15.16 lakh
Six airbags in higher trims

The Astor is the only midsize SUV on this list, and its entry-level Sprint and Shine trims come equipped with two airbags. Starting from the Astor Select trim (Rs 12.26 lakh) though, six airbags are part of the package.
13. Mahindra Thar
Price: Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 16.99 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

Though it received an update very recently, the 3-door Thar continues to be offered with just two airbags. Much like the Comet, the Thar’s body style may make six airbags a bit challenging to install, but there's always the case for four.
14. Tata Tigor EV
Price: Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only
The most expensive Tata model on this list is the Tigor EV, which does not get six airbags across its variant line-up. Like its ICE-powered sibling, though, the Tigor EV holds a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating.
15. Citroen eC3
Price: Rs 12.90 lakh to Rs 13.53 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

The eC3 is substantially more expensive than its ICE-powered sibling, yet it doesn't offer six airbags anywhere in its variant line-up. You get only two airbags in the eC3, which puts it at odds with the rest of Citroen’s range.
16. Mahindra Scorpio Classic
Price: Rs 12.98 lakh to Rs 16.71 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only

The Scorpio Classic is effectively an updated rebrand of the facelifted previous-gen model, but Mahindra continues to sell the SUV with just two airbags across both variants, which isn't ideal given it's a 7-seater. Like with the Thar, this could be a limitation of Mahindra’s older ladder-frame platforms.
17. Mahindra Scorpio N
Price: Rs 13.20 lakh to Rs 24.17 lakh
Six airbags in higher trims
Entry-level variants of the Scorpio N come with two airbags only, but from the Z8 S trim (Rs 16.59 lakh) onward, the ladder-frame SUV gets six airbags. Moreover, the Scorpio N holds a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.
18. Mahindra XUV700
Price: Rs 14.13 lakh to Rs 23.71 lakh
Up to seven airbags in higher trims

Given the XUV700’s monocoque construction and premium positioning within Mahindra’s line-up, it's surprising for the SUV to offer just two airbags as standard. However, you get curtain airbags starting from the XUV700 AX5 trim (Rs 17.29 lakh), side airbags from the AX7 trim (Rs 18.37 lakh), and a driver-side knee airbag in the AX7 L trim. This makes the XUV700 the most affordable car on this list to offer up to seven airbags.
19. MG Hector / Hector Plus
Price: Rs 14 lakh to Rs 21.34 lakh
Six airbags in higher trims
Though the Hector is MG’s second-most expensive ICE-powered model, it gets only two airbags as standard, and the same holds true for the 6- or 7-seater Hector Plus too. However, you get four airbags starting from the Hector Smart Pro trim (Rs 16.89 lakh), and the count is bumped to six from the Sharp Pro trim level (Rs 18.34 lakh) onwards.
20. Force Gurkha
Price: Rs 15.95 lakh to Rs 17.27 lakh
Driver and co-driver airbags only
As is the trend with ladder-frame SUVs in this list, both the 3-door and 5-door versions of the Gurkha off-roader come fitted with two airbags only. They're also sold in one variant each, so there's no scope for additional airbags.
21. Jeep Compass
Price: Rs 17.73 lakh to Rs 30.50 lakh
Six airbags in higher trims
The Compass may be Jeep’s entry-level model for India, but the SUV ranks as the third-most expensive car on this list. Despite that, the Compass comes fitted with two airbags as standard in entry-level variants. Six airbags are included from the Compass Limited (O) trim (Rs 24.58 lakh) onwards.
22. Toyota Innova Crysta
Price: Rs 18.66 lakh to Rs 25.36 lakh
Three airbags as standard, seven in top-spec trim

Though the Innova Crysta is one of the most revered MPVs in India, Toyota doesn’t offer it with six airbags as standard. However, the Innova Crysta stands out as the only model here to be equipped with three airbags as standard – two for the front passengers, and a knee airbag for the driver. The top-spec Innova Crysta ZX variant (Rs 25.27 lakh onwards) increases the count to seven airbags.
23. Isuzu D-Max V-Cross
Price: Rs 24.27 lakh to Rs 29.65 lakh
Six airbags in top-spec trim only
Of the two Isuzu models on sale in India, the D-Max V-Cross pickup is the only one that doesn't get six airbags as standard, as well as the most expensive car on this list. Six airbags are available only in the top-spec D-Max V-Cross 4WD AT Z Prestige variant, with all others making do with just two.
All prices are ex-showroom, India.
