In an effort to remove prototype testing from public roads, Ferrari has opened a new test track. Called the e-Vortex, the track is 1,887 metres long and designated for “precise and repeatable testing in compliance with the highest safety standards”, says Ferrari.

The track took less than four months to develop and will be used only for testing purposes. It is built on a 37,000-square-metre area adjacent to the Fiorano Circuit, which will still be used. Ferrari says that the move lets them “conduct more objective performance assessments and identify anomalies faster”.

For evaluating different attributes of Ferrari’s test cars, the track is divided into several sectors. There’s a 600-metre central straight and a series of turns of varying sharpness and width, along with two wide banked curves.

The brand says that the track is finished in “bespoke surfacing”, developed through its expertise and experience, “for a deeper analysis of comfort and performance of the model being tested”. There’s also a 1,000-metre-long workshop for static tests and “specific work on cars”.

Track only for testing to avoid spy shots or prototype leaks

Ferrari states that the new track will help in gradually transferring testing activities from public roads to the track, in a move to completely test future prototypes behind closed doors, thus preventing car enthusiasts from getting spy shots. The change will also “help reduce the impact on traffic in the surrounding area”, says the brand.

The opening of Ferrari’s new track comes ahead of its EV debut, the first official details of which are expected to be revealed later this week. Ferrari has been testing camouflaged test mules of its EV for a while now. As per the spy shots, the EV will be similar in dimensions to the ICE-powered Purosangue SUV and could feature a roof-mounted lip spoiler at the back and flared wheel arches.

Ferrari will unveil the EV’s interior in early 2026, and a complete reveal is set to follow in spring 2026, according to Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna. The EV will be built at a new facility in Maranello with an advanced new production line.
