New Tata Sierra: 5 things to know before its November launch

Tata is going to resurrect the iconic Sierra nameplate after decades, with its launch set for next month. The 2025 SUV is built on an advanced platform and packs modern features and multiple powertrain options. If you are interested in the new Tata Sierra, here are five things you should know about it.

1. What is the expected price of the Tata Sierra?

May start at Rs 11 lakh.

We expect the upcoming Sierra to be priced in the Rs 11 lakh-20 lakh range, ex-showroom. If that holds, the SUV would occupy a spot between the Curvv (Rs 9.66 lakh-18.85 lakh) and the Tata Harrier (Rs 14 lakh-25.25 lakh).

2. What powertrains will the Tata Sierra offer?

Electric, diesel and petrol.

On the ICE front, a trio of 1.5-litre engines is likely to be offered with the Sierra – naturally aspirated, direct-injection turbo-petrol and diesel. Reportedly, the turbo-petrol motor could later be introduced with the Harrier and even the Safari SUV flagship. Stellantis is also exploring the possibility of using the TGDi mill to power the Jeep Compass, and possibly the Meridian. An electric version of the Sierra will launch too. In fact, the Sierra EV will arrive before the ICE, Tata stated at its investor presentation in November 2024.

3. How different is the exterior design of the 2025 Sierra from the old model?

Bigger wheels, split-headlamp setup.

Tata Sierra new vs old

The new Tata Sierra takes inspiration from the original, keeping key features like the signature curved-over rear side windows, squarish wheel arches, and high-set bonnet. However, the latest Sierra differentiates itself with a sharper roofline, shorter front and rear overhangs, and a more upright, slab-sided shape. Its slim, split-headlamp setup is new as well, and resembles those found on Tata's newer cars. Another major change is the wheels – the old Sierra had chunky R15 tyres, while the new one gets larger 19-inch alloys. The 2025 Sierra has a sharper roofline, shorter front and rear overhangs, and a more upright, slab-sided shape.

4. What interior features will the Tata Sierra offer?

Triple-screen setup, Harrier EV-like steering wheel.

A recent Sierra test mule sighting revealed a Mahindra XEV 9e-like three-screen setup – digital instrument cluster, and central and passenger side touchscreens; each unit is expected to measure 12.3 inches. Dual-tone dashboard, Harrier EV-like four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo and ambient lights, a Harman sound system, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger and ventilated front seats are also expected. On the safety front, the Sierra is likely to feature 6 airbags, 360-degree cameras, electronic stability control (ESC), and Level 2 ADAS. Like other Tata SUVs, the Sierra could perform exceptionally well in crash safety tests.

5. Which SUVs will the 2025 Tata Sierra rival?

Hyundai Creta, Maruti Victoris, Skoda Kushaq.

The latest from Tata will measure around 4.3 metres, similar to the Curvv, and go against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and Honda Elevate. Sierra will also go up against the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Citroen Aircross and MG Astor.
